The talk will give a brief overview on how stars and planets are forming. I will explain how amateur observations are vital in our HOYS project and how we use them to study the disks around young stars (where the planets form) as well as the surface of the stars in great detail. I will briefly explain how people can participate in the project and discuss some of our very recent results.
