Samuel L Jackson presenting ‘Planetary Defence: From Large Observatories to Your Own Backyard’

Samuel Jackson is an OU PhD student studying the variation in asteroid brightness as their solar phase angle changes.

In this talk he will give and overview of planetary defence – why we care, and what we’re doing about it, discuss the recent Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission – humanity’s first planetary defence test, explain his involvement in the mission as a member of the investigation team and explain how anyone can get involved with studying asteroids using their own equipment.
